At Smile Team Pediatric Dentistry, Fort Worth pediatric dentist Dr. Justin Warcup wants to make each child's appointment comfortable, effective, and fun. We work to ease dental anxiety and create positive relationships with dental care from the start! To achieve this, Dr. Warcup and his pediatric dental team take time to get to know both you and your child, and tailor each visit to your child's specific oral health needs.
We encourage you and your child to ask questions and are always happy to address any concerns you have as a parent. Is your child anxious about receiving dental care? Ask us about our sedation dentistry options that could make their appointment more relaxing!
Your Child's First Dental Visit
Because Dr. Warcup knows each parent wants the best for their child's smile, Smile Team Pedatric Dentistry focuses on providing the highest quality preventive dentistry. Our team also understands it’s completely normal for a child to be unsure or nervous about their first dental visit, but our Fort Worth dental team is here to keep our patients at ease! Smile Team Pediatric Dentistry is designed to make your child comfortable and excited to visit the dentist.
Pediatric Dental Checkups
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists (AAPD) advises that children be seen for a checkup every 6 months. These visits allow Dr. Warcup to closely monitor new changes in your child’s mouth and ensure that you, as a parent, have the information you need to promote continued oral health in your child. Dr. Warcup may suggest additional checkups if your child is more susceptible to cavities, or if your child is showing signs of orthodontic problems.
Mercury-Free Dentistry
Mercury can be found in common dental materials. Mercury can be harmful to your child's overall health and can be released in small amounts into your child's body through amalgam dental fillings. That's why Dr. Warcup only uses mercury-free dental materials. Mercury-free composite dental restorations are more comfortable for pediatric patients and help support their overall health and wellness.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental fluoride treatments are safe and effective in decreasing the amount of cavities in children. Dr. Warcup often recommends tooth strengthening mineral treatments along with dental sealants to protect your child’s teeth. The minerals act as a shield for the tooth’s outer enamel and can actually reverse early dental decay in some children.
Tooth-Colored Dental Fillings
Dr. Warcup typically treats our pediatric patients' cavities with custom-shaded, tooth-colored fillings that are always mercury-free.
Dental Bonding
Dr. Warcup can use dental bonding to cover minor damage to the teeth, including small chips or gaps. Dental bonding uses durable, tooth-colored materials in a non-invasive procedure that is always mercury-free.
Pediatric Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped coverings cemented to a badly damaged tooth to restore the shape and functionality of the tooth. Dr. Warcup might recommend a mercury-free, white zirconia pediatric dental crown for your child’s tooth if it has suffered moderate damage, a large cavity, or was broken or chipped due to trauma.
Sedation Dentistry
For children who experience dental anxiety, have special needs, or just need extra help to stay relaxed in the dentist's chair, our pediatric dental team may recommend sedation dentistry with laughing gas, a mild sedative and completely safe way to help children receive the dental care they need without anxiety or fear.
Once their dental treatment is over, the laughing gas sedative will be completely out of their system after just a few minutes. Laughing gas is widely considered to be low risk for patients of all ages. Our caring pediatric team will be here to control the amount of gas administered, to ensure our patients' optimal safety and comfort.
